Obama: No Health Care For Illegal Immigrants

(AP Photo/Haraz N. Ghanbari )
Asked by CBS News' Katie Couric in an exclusive interview whether illegal immigrants should be covered under a new health care plan, President Obama responded simply, "no." But he said there may need to be an exception to that policy for children.

"First of all, I'd like to create a situation where we're dealing with illegal immigration, so that we don't have illegal immigrants," he said. "And we've got legal residents or citizens who are eligible for the plan. And I want a comprehensive immigration plan that creates a pathway to achieve that."

"The one exception that I think has to be discussed is how are we treating children," he continued. "Partly because if you've got children who may be here illegally but are still in playgrounds or at schools, and potentially are passing on illnesses and communicable diseases, that aren't getting vaccinated, that I think is a situation where you may have to make an exception."

Amnesty first...then belly up to the table...like you've been doing. Shouldn't even skip a beat...

They will be covered. You notice the Dems voted down an amendment that states that illegal immigrants WONT be covered?

Remember, Obama promised if we did the stimulus, unemployment wouldnt go over 8%? we are at 9% and rising.

Remember when he said that the middle class wouldnt have their taxes raised? Well, now they are raising taxes.

Remember when he said he wouldnt tax health benefits (and skewered McCain for proposing it)? And now, his plan includes health benefit taxes.

So, you gonna believe him now?

Obama claims that children that are in our schools that are illegal immigrants might need to be covered because they are in our playgrounds...Why are they in our schools in the first place? I do not wish to cover illegal immigrants in any fashion. Its not right. Im tired of it and I can only imagine most americans are tired of it. Tired of people who work in our country can't speak english! Tired of them waving the mexican flag yet want all of our rights!

When the health bill and the immigration bill comes in, insurance for sick workers will be available, because the private health plans are still there and most employers do not want a bunch of ill employees. Other than that, they will just die in the street and the world can see the great American charity...or charade.

Many immigrants are going back to their source countries because the under-the-table un-skilled labor is drying up. This is causing a lot of stress at the southern border of the US in various ways. Death, ransom based kidnapping, and mass killing for control of channels of US drug money are a few.

Historically when something of value is discovered or available the poorest population who face abhorrent abuse, and lots of it. In most instances the outcome is that the poor exchange places with the rich.

The middle strata of the population composing of approximately 70% of the population remains primarily the same. A disruption of this population always results in revolution and as a nation these are the target population for social funding and social reform.

This is the way of humanity and it is a natural system and can be modeled.

Health care costs are affecting this population and reform is necessary and mandatory.

To the bickering selfish law makers, I say it is not to be careful what you ask for but to be careful of who you try to please.

Obama should have said NO Health Care for children of illegals too. not just their parents. Many illegals come across the border to drop their babies here in the states so they are born U.S. Citizens..remember the women in Chicago who lived in a store front church and refused to be deported to Mexico a second time because she said her son was born here..she finally went back...we have millions of illegal alien children here in our country..the parents should take them back to their own country. No healthcare for children of Illegals...I feel sorry for the kids that parents would expect our country to pay for their children's healthcare...deport the illegals..our country is in a depression, who helps the U.S. when we have finincial troubles..other countries by buying up our factories, or making products, cars, clothes, etc. in their countries and shipping their goods to the U.S. so we buy them..If it ain't made in the U.S.A. don't buy it...Demand that our country be self supporting. No more company's should be sold to foreigner's. Our country has been for sale by the Bush administration and it looks like the Democrats are following in their footsteps...God Help Us All...

Nobody signs up for sickness or disease. No disease discriminates who it will infect. An infectious disease comes for everyone, regardless of their race, religion, ethnicity or citizenship.

I highly recommend you to view the feature film with young Henry Fonda, "The Grapes of Wrath" and learn about the cruelty of the Great Depression. The very last line in the film says it all.

When my creator judges me, he will never see that citizenship or legal status stopped me from loving his children, or my brothers, or sisters.

Deportation only proves our ability to exhibit futility and foolish wastefulness with our resources when we solve our problems with superficial criteria. Many are truly blind to the cost of deportation. It is the most inefficient expense in our justice system after carrying out a death penalty.

You only have to live in Alabama or Georgia to see that the illegal aliens that have children are breaking the hospital emergency rooms and the school system's with so many children being brought in by their parents. In Alabama, our county has so many illegal alien children who get a free ride to school, free breakfast, free lunch and free ride home. Their parents don't pay for ER visits, and they get free food from WIC. A lot of Catholic charities offer free food, help with rent etc..Then you have employer's hiring illegal aliens, which is the reason that many illegals come here. Word of mouth or cell phone is fast and the illegals know which employer's will hire them as day laborer's or working in restaurant's, farms, factories. These employeer's should be fined $100,000. per person per day that they work, it job market would dry up real fast. The second time an employer was caught hiring illegals, they should receive 10 years in prison for each illegal they hire. We have thousands of people out of work who are citizens, American's all, no matter the color of their skin...stop hiring illegals. If you know someone is illegal, call the Feds and turn them in, the job you save may be your own. Illegal's go home on your own and don't come back until you can come into OUR country legally.

The biggest reason that the poorest children, whether legally here or not, are "Breaking the hospital emergency rooms", as you say, is because they don't access to health care and simply get sicker and sicker, until their parents finally swallow their pride and bring their suffering children or family members in for treatment.

If you want to waste your tax dollars hunting for aliens to deport and illegal employers to prosecute, I have news for you - you can't afford the taxes needed to accomplish such an undertaking. Your ideology clearly sounds like you behave like a parrot repeating whatever you hear on talk radio, that makes you angry and entertains you. Try looking in the faces of those you condemn and then tell them with God in your heart, they don't deserve your compassion....you can't do it.

Purge your hypocritical ideas from your heart and choose to serve a master who will give you a brighter future.

I feel the typical illegal aliens are highly under credited and under respected for their exhibition of character to leave their families in search of work around the world to support them. That isn't common for our own citizens, who seem to feel they are so great and deserving.

Keep wasting your taxes making your stupid laws for the weakest people to break and building prisons to house them, or paying for expensive judicial process to enforce them. Soon, you will see how much your prejudice and lack of compassion really costs all of us.
by Mortarman29 July 22, 2009 9:10 AM EDT
Pensacola, you have no clue what you are talking about. First, no nation can afford having the borders flooded with people who break their laws. Illegal aliens are criminals, just as thieves, murderers, etc. They are breaking the law.

Secon, we can shut down the border with Mexico (which is the problem right now) relatively cheaply. Finish building the fence from one end to the other, make sure it is well monitored with camreas, etc...and use Border Patrol to round up anyone that might breech it.

Once you shut the border down, then find the 11 million here and give them a choice. Return voluntarily to THEIR country and get on the list to enter legally, or be picked up and returned...with a lifetime ban of ever getting here legally.

Once the border is secure, the costs to maintain it will be miniscule compared with what we pay for illegals for health care, housing, etc.

Look, I dont blame them for trying to get here. They live in a crappy place and they want better for their families. I get that. But this isnt their country, it is ours. And our rules say that you come thru the front door, not thru the back. Your first act in my country is to break our laws, then I want you out of here. You have no respect for me, for my countrymen, nor my country. Thus, you should not become one of us.
by credibility2 July 21, 2009 11:19 PM EDT
Right, just like their not leeching from the rest of our resources. Illegals and the kids they keep breeding in this country are breaking our health care, education and welfare systems. They should be denied everything. Those employing them or giving them sanctuary should be prosecuted fully; this includes any church. They're condoning criminality and therefore are complicit. They should lose their tax-exempt status.

I think if that is true, it is a good thing. She would be a good barometer with first hand knowledge and trusted source to President Obama to provide a valid perspective to him about the effectiveness of this type of housing. There is no shame in having a relative live an independent life of their choice that requires public assistance on a temporary basis.
by Mortarman29 July 22, 2009 9:21 AM EDT
How are you independent, but dependent?

While I agree that in the name of common decency, no one should be denied health care in event of an emergency or a catastrophic illness how many more people are we supposed to take care of? Why is the United States always responsible for this? My GOD, we can't even take care of all of our own citizens let alone half the world! If for some strange reason all of a sudden millions of poor Americans attempted to sneak into Mexico do you believe for one minute that they would welcome us with open arms & make sure that we would receive health care & that our children would be welcome in their schools? They would deport or probably shoot any american they found & not a word would be said about Racism! It is time both political parties in this country stop bickering with one another to gain political points & DEMAND that Mexico begin to take care of their own people & their own problems!! We should also demand that other Hispanic speaking countries start taking in their fair share of Legal Hispanics & not to expect the U.S. to do it all. If these demands are not met we should cut off all foreign aid until the are met! This is an emergency situation!! I am not saying we should be cruel & go on a rampage & round up every single illegal & deport them. Some of them have been here for years & have raised fine families. But enough is enough! We can't do it alone any more!!! How about we demand that Mexico send US foreign aid since we are absorbing all their Illegals!! If they do not, then their foreign is cut off, we build our border security fence even higher & Longer, We have our Army patrol it,& we have an indefinite Moratorium on even Legal Immigration !!

Mexico doesn't deny any American Citizen access to medical care, when ever it is needed. I visit Mexico frequently and am treated like an ambassador. I once became ill with a cardio-pulminary distress from exposure to high altitude and extreme air pollution, and required medical treatment for one week before being healthy enough to travel. The cost to me was $200 for optional extensive testing that I paid for out of my own pocket, while all other services and medications were nearly free. When I returned to the USA, my own insurance company denied benefit to me because I was not hospitalized. ( A cop-out deluxe )

Your ideas about Mexico and other countries are clearly influenced by those who know very little about them. Every time I go there and return, I am reminded of the defunct Soviet Union, who used to broadcast outrageous propaganda about the crumbling USA to every Soviet Citizen until the Cold War ended in 1989. The USA now does the same thing about Mexico and other countries and it sickens me to know that nothing is done to stop it.

You can waste all your time ranting and demanding taxes be expended in purging out people you don't desire in your neighborhoods or communities, but I can tell you that Mexicans don't exhibit anything like that towards us, or at least to me. Get an open mind and serve a more humane master.
by Mortarman29 July 22, 2009 9:32 AM EDT
Oh yes...we are wronng about Mexico. But, please tell me again why people are risking their lives everyday to get here? Why is Western Union loaded up with Hispanics on payday, sending money back to Mexico?

Again, as with most of your posts on this subject...you just dont make sense.

US is the only country where it becomes such a big issue. Most other countries including POOR countries have free healthcare for all without any questions asked. US is the biggest hypocrite country that exists in the world today-Without the US bureacracy and politics, this world would have been a peaceful and happy place for everybody.

That is totally false. I have lived outside the US for the last 8 years and nowhere has that been the case. All of them require a passport and cash up front for any treatment. Some countries,e.g. China, require a cash deposit to be admitted to a hospital. When the money runs out you pay again or hit the street. Also, most POOR countries have POOR medical facilities. You (obviously) have no idea.
by pensacola8-2009 July 22, 2009 12:40 AM EDT
We are bound by international treaty to extend free health care to all legal visitors from other countries when they come to the USA and require medical care. Other countries extend the same benefit to us, when we visit and require medical care.

As popular as it may seem to deny benefit to anyone here illegally, most hospitals know that depriving any person from medical treatment when a communicable disease or infectious influenza is involved, is extremely self-defeating and unwise. Sending a victim of an accident that was no fault of their own, who is not legally here, is also cruel and heartless. Refusing to see and prescribe a medication for a health condition to someone who is not legally here, is clearly cruel. Sending a diabetic away to die and refuse a prescription for insulin, is clearly not a good way to exhibit civilization. Sending a person with bronchitis away to advance into pneumonia and die or infect the population with a virulant form of pneumonia, is also cruel and self-defeating.

There are some who are perfectly ok with being cruel and depriving medical care to illegal aliens, but I am not one of them. I have had to personally pick up dead aliens off the ground in my uncle's ranch in South Texas and carry them to a public morgue for a pauper's burial. Many had no identification and didn't appear healthy. Looking in their dead faces and knowing they committed no serious crime to leave their families and exhibit the courage to find work to support them, showed me that they have uncredited charactar that many citizens in this country don't have.

I don't believe depriving health care to any illegal alien is in our best interests. I read about one illegal alien who gave blood and was found to have a mutated chromosome that resisted diabetes when his blood was analyzed. His blood was priceless. Millions around the world would have benefited if this person could have been found alive and provided scientific researchers with more information.

Our stupid prejudices easily become so popular and self-defeating. Medical treatment is act of compassion. There are countries with far less than we have, who exhibit greater compassion for their people or visitors who are suffering.

------------------------
That's flatly not true, not that I'm aware of anyway.
Every time I visit the States from Canada, I have to buy insurance to cover the length of my stay just in case something happens while I'm down there.
'Cause if it does, there's no way in hell I could ever pay what you guys charge for medical and surgical procedures
by worlddude July 22, 2009 11:25 AM EDT
Please tell me where I can read about this treaty, besides your simple assertion that it exists.
Medical treatment may be an act of compassion, but most countries couldn't care less, especially with non-citizens. The US is one of the few that will treat you regardless of your ability to pay or whether you are in the country illegally. All countries I have visited want to see a passport as ID. They also want cash for treatment or at least a credit card.
Yes, many countries, e.g. Mexico (Thailand is much better), have nice facilities and are happy to treat you, provided you have money. Please tell us if you can enter a Mexican hospital minus passport and dinero and expect anything at all.
I hate to burst people's balloons, especially those who always demonize the US, but it's a cruel world out there. Aside from maybe Cuba I doubt if you'll find a country that would really treat you for free. And in the case of Cuba, you'd better have your passport.
by 1bzmom July 22, 2009 5:11 PM EDT
I have to disagree with you on providing illegals with any benefits which they have not earned. My parents have both worked hard all their lives and are not rich by any means. If my father gets any worse healthwise, my mother has to become almost destitute before he can get medicaid assistance. But if he was illegal, he would be in a nursing home now and receiving care for free. How is that right?????

A local newspaper did an investigative article regarding healthcare provided to both illegals and visitors who overstayed their visas. An Egyptian doctor stayed in this country to have her baby in a local prominent hospital. She went back home to her country and do you know who paid the bill??? The taxpayers because she skipped out on it and her family was on assistance here because they were not legal but had an anchor baby. And that is only one example from the series.

We cannot take care of the world and say just come here illegally and you can have all the benefits without any of the hard work. Citizens/legal residents have to be taken care of first and if there is anything left, then charity follows. They chose to come here knowing they were breaking the law.

Any of you who support giving illegals free healthcare, housing, food, schooling, etc, maybe you would like to sponsor an illegal family and pay their way from your pocket. Get them off the public dole and out of my pocket. Maybe the President should have to take his aunt in and provide for her so the taxpayers don't.
by agfillion July 25, 2009 8:50 PM EDT
This is not about prejudices, we do not have the money in this country to provide healthcare for people who are not citizens. And you are wrong if you believe we are bound by an international treaty. That's the most ridiculous one I've heard yet. I have traveled all over this world and lived in Europe, S. Korea and China and any place I visited a hospital or emergency room, even London and Canada, I was charged for the services. That's why there are companies who sell International Insurance for people who travel abroad. Wake up, you are being fed tripe. I say shame on the country of Mexico for caring so little and providing so poorly for their citizens that they engage in dangerous endeavors. Didn't your parents ever teach you that money doesn't grow on trees and when it's gone it's gone.
by libsRlost July 22, 2009 1:44 AM EDT
Both sides of the aisle have pandered to these criminals for the possibility of future votes. Whichever side of the aisle appeases these bums first will get the voters, as was proven when Obama got elected. The brown tide from the south doesn't care if any kind of comprehensive plan is passed, because as long as NOTHING is being done in the way of immigration reform, then this government has basically given them everything they want without having to work or pay for it. Do you liberal fools think that if Obama gave "amnesty" tomorrow every last one of these crooks are going to be lined up to waiting to get on the rolls and start paying taxes and health care premiums? Pull your liberal heads out of your rectal cavities. As soon as either party approves any kind of amnesty and these people "come out of hiding", the first place they are going to go is to the welfare line and sign up for every freebie they can get. Then they will inundate doctor's offices for their "right" to cheap health care just for a sore throat. In a press conference the other day referring to California's budget deficit, L.A. mexican mayor Villaraigosa said that he WILL continue his sanctuary city policies and that "the money to pay for it has to come from somewhere". Care to guess where taxpayers? And therein lies the problem. I don't care how long they have been living in the shadows, round them up and send their azzes home, and make them get in line.

The immigration problem you are complaining about is based on economics. Many countries around the world who are prosperous, have a neighbor that is not and experience that same thing, and sometimes on a greater scale.

In post WW-I Germany, inflation was so bad, that a wheel barrel full of cash could be carried to a grocery store and person could return to their home with a small bag of food. The rest is history when the NAZI party rose to fight crime and advance that country into economic prosperity with technology. Unfortunately, some chose to victimize a small minority segment which still leaves its smearing scar on history. Russia did the same thing during WW-I when Stalin announced his war on peasants and exterminated 16 million of his own people.

I am glad that California has an Austrian-born citizen for it's Governor, to remind citizens that financial problems should never be a motivating factor in launching an in-humane aggression against a class or race of people.

There are people with far less than we have, who are much happier. No alien has any responsibility for your high credit card debt, upside-down mortgage, or escalating health care costs. I would rather have an alien here working and give them amnesty and let them pay taxes, than support a looser US Citizen with no aspiration to become independant.

California and other states with revenue problems would benefit from an alien amnesty because taxes would be collected. The solution is so obvious. I am surprised so many oppose the idea.
by tautomer July 22, 2009 2:02 AM EDT
Obama is excluding the illegals only as a prelude to offering them Citizenship. By so doing he will create 20 million new Democrats voters. Then his Dem friends will be able to run Trillion Dollar Deficits till the rest of the World owns us, lock, stock and barrel. Yeah Obama!!!!!!!

What i said was if for some strange reason, MILLIONS of POOR Americans, not wealthy American tourists we're to try to sneak across the Mexican Border, they would be rightly outraged, just like we are in this country, only in our case it is a REAL situation, not a hypothetical one.

"Obama: No Health Care For Illegal Immigrants"
----

That is why an amnesty program will be required.

ON costs...

An illegal alien (pronounced "un-doc-u-men-ted") goes to the ER complaining of chest pains. Asked if pregnant, the illegal replies "I don't know". A pregnancy test is included in the battery of tests. After learning that she is pregnant, she leaves the ER w/ no further treatment.

This happens a lot in the south. They know how to get a "free" pregnancy test at the ER instead of spending $12 of their own money at the drugstore they spend $350 of someone elses' money at the ER.

You want to solve the health care "crisis", just charge $10 admission to the ER and give everyone a national ID card. No ID card, enter them into a national database that facilities can share.

Total costs to taxpayers, less than $1B.

Total savings to taxpayers, $300B per year.

I think I joined this battle in 1993. About the time the Feds started calling us all racists, thugs and vigilantes, it became a passion as the standing Immigration Law was simply ignored, and the Border Patrol was de-funded with the obvious effect of throwing the borders open.

There are not 12 million illegal aliens in this country as the Immigration Service Big Wigs suggest, but lets use that number anyway. The Census counts everyone.. all.. and there are 44 million Hispanics in the United States. 12 million illegal aliens subtracted from that. Half or more of the illegal aliens have two or more children (more wic's and local welfare with more children) and we don't have any idea how many illegal aliens are in this country after buying excellent I.D. from a Federal Official someplace. 4 million Puerto Ricans. Cubans in refuge? It will be very high number, but we have some 18 million Hispanic Citizens who have managed to tell the American People to shove it in spite of enormous data that tells us Amnesty for the uneducated will cost a fortune the American Taxpayers don't have. And, look at the money going back to Mexico, and you have to assume the numbers the Immigration Service are using are incredibly wrong, but with the permission of the Government.

I wonder CBS... if we wanted to stop Congress, could we?

Wouldn't providing health care to legal residents violate sponsorship laws? Does Pres. Obama's plan even consider this? Is it even part of the so-called Health Care reform bill? Also what will stop employers from laying off workers if they are forced to provide health care and then re-hiring said employees as "sub contractors" - having "we the people" to pay the bill.
by govtguy July 22, 2009 8:55 AM EDT
The idea/theory is correct; too bad previous administrations didn't think of it; oops, forgot, it's too politically sensitive. Kudos to the Prez for his candor. If an illegal immigrant wants medical service, let them get "pre-approval" from their home country and the bills sent to the home country as well! Children definitely occupy a special condition, as through no fault of their own, they are victims of the non-addressed problems of the past; however, treatment for them needs to cease at age 17, period! Go for it Mr President!

Illegal aliens have made America the dumping ground for all their illegal alien children, then we have to school them and give them free medical care. I'm sick and tired of these illegal aliens snubbing their nose at our laws.

How can you ILLEGALLY enter this Country and be rewarded with the precious gift of U.S. citizenship for a crime that the ILLEGAL ALIEN has committed by ILLEGALLY trespassing onto this Country. It makes no sense to me.

Talk about needing comprehensive reform, how about putting an end to this BS! Why should Americans pay for all this criminal activity? Just who do these ILLEGAL ALIENS think they are? Yes, who?

I for one, am sick and tired of these ILLEGAL ALIENS snubbing their nose at our immigration laws and the many other laws of this Country. If our Federal Government can not ENFORCE our immigration laws, and get these ILLEGAL ALIENS out of this Country, then let the States do it! One way or another, an end has to come to this illegal immigration, and not with AMNESTY! Amnesty will only encourage more ILLEGAL ALIENS to invade our Country and reward those who broke our laws and raped the American taxpayer in many ways...depressing our wages, taking our jobs, overwhelming our schools with their ILLEGAL ALIEN children, driving without a license or car insurance, all the crime from stolen identities to rape, drugs and everything else.

It's time for ZERO TOLERENCE with these ILLEGAL ALIENS. It's time for them get out of this Country and back in their own Country where they belong. When we get rid of the ILLEGAL ALIENS, we will get rid of all the problems that go with them.

I assume "pensacola" is in Florida. I live in Southern California. Unless your illegal aliens in Florida are quite different than ours, I can't understand any of your arguments.

My background: U.S. citizen, flair for languages. I have visited and lived in Mexico. I was also injured in Mexico. I also worked for San Diego Unified School District and for Health and Human Services as a Spanish speaking Medi-Cal eligibility technician. So I KNOW what I am talking about.

If you go to Mexico, bring plenty of pesos. Although hospitals in resort towns like Cabo San Lucas accept credit cards, the one in Ciudad Constitucion did not. I received good care, pretty cheap, paid in pesos. I had quite a struggle to get the pharmacy across the street to use U.S. dollars for the antibiotic I needed.

Fortunately my injury was from a fall. Had it been from a car accident or altercation, I would have been hauled off to jail and not given treatment until I provided proof of ability to pay all potential accident or bail and fine costs (substantial). Many SoCal'ers have died in Mexican jails after accidents. I don't drive there.

Mexicans living in Mexico are, for the most part, kind, helpful and generous. One person panga'd me off the island. Another drove my bloodied body first to a local clinic, then 50+ miles to a hospital in a neighboring city. She stayed with me throughout the entire process. She was a nurse, her husband a taxi driver. I insisted on giving her $60 for the trip, which she tried to decline. This, and my other occasions have convinced me that most Mexicans in Mexico are decent people.

But what happens to them once they cross the border? Or is it that the class of people willing to cross the border illegally and commit identity fraud to work or collect aid are Mexico's undesirables?

I have never had any problem with any of the legal aliens who came here the right way: fill out the forms, and wait. They have been excellent coworkers and neighbors.

But I have had LOTS OF PROBLEMS with the illegal aliens and former illegal amnesty aliens who are now "legal".

Illegal aliens are in general undesirable immigrants. There are many reasons for this. If you are willing to break the rules once, you'll break them again and again.

Amongst my totally legal (and very few) clients: never caught any welfare fraud. None had been to prison. Most were elderly or disabled and this was the first time they were receiving aid.

Amongst my illegal alien clients..crimes included 1) cross and stay illegally 2) identity theft 3) welfare fraud 4) driving without insurance, driving drunk, driving with too many people in vehicle and kids not in carseats 5) gang activity 6) spousal and child abuse 7) child molestation, having sex with 13 year olds 8) graffitti 9) theft and robbery and I forget the rest. This is NOT an occasional list for a few public assistance/Medi-Cal recipients. More than half of my clients have committed 3 or more of these items multiple times.

They are a major drag on our educational system and cut the time that teachers have for citizen children in half. This is because their parents refuse to learn or speak English, are not involved in their child's education. Plus so many of the kids are in gangs that it is dangerous for our kids to attend school.
They are a major drag on our hospitals, whether or not they have Medi-Cal. They come to the ER for every sniffle and sneeze and bellyache. Many ERs and hospitals have been bankrupted by illegal aliens in SoCAl. If you live in an area with high % of illegals, you will wait 6 -8 hours in the ER, even for major broken bones. In American neighborhoods you will be seen in 1 -2 hours.

Back to Medi-Cal. Most of my clients were Spanish speaking, even if they have lived here for 30+ years and were amnestied in 1986. They are too lazy or conceited to learn English. Many have a superiority complex, they think their culture is superior to ours and refuse to assimilate. They refuse to give up customs like 30 year old men having 13 year old girlfriends. Or the macho male how-many-girls-can-I-get-pregant attitude.

The only difference between the amnesty aliens and the illegal aliens is that the amnestied ones receive more cash aid, more food stamps, full scope Medi-Cal and SSI. They seldom do anything to improve themselves, like learn English, go to school and get an education or learn a trade. After 20 -30 years half of them are still working under the counter and NOT PAYING TAXES. Most of the other half are still working low end jobs and are dependent upon assistance.

There once was a young country in turmoil.
Thank God that they pushed against Aristrocracy.
Right of citizenry through their soil birth place was the answer.
So that no one could create a priveledged class of citizen.
Though mocked and ridiculed but to date it is the law.
So once again begone with your flaws and embrace the nature of love.

It is obvious that Obama is for amnesty for all illegals and healthcare for all illegals in his comments on illegal immigration & Healthcare: "First of all, I'd like to create a situation where we're dealing with illegal immigration, so that we don't have illegal immigrants," he said. "And we've got legal residents or citizens who are eligible for the plan. And I want a comprehensive immigration plan that creates a pathway to achieve that."

By year end, our country will have a 12 trillion dollar deficit and with the liberal governance our county is heading in the direction that california is currently in. California can not pay essential bills and are issuing IOU's.

Our country's resources are strapped and we are having dificulty providing for our own poor which should get preference over illegal immigrants.

Under both Bush and Obama, our federal government has been fiscally irresponsible and will continue until drastic change is demanded by the people of our country. If we continue to spend more money than we take in we are headed for a recession and ultimately a depression that will be much more significant than our present situation.

Illegal immigrants are taking our jobs at a time where our unemployment rate is 9.5% and will top 10% within the next year.

Illegal immigrants do not contribute to our society and yet utilize a high level of social services.

With our country incurring a $1.84 Trillion deficit this year we can not afford to supply healthcare to everyone that finds their way hear illegally. There is a process for legal immigration and those that take that path have typically become productive citizens.

Hello, I am "Middle America"! I have insurance, and my premiums cost about about 18K a year, and is a benefit of my job. That money will be taken and put right into millions of ILLEGAL ALIEN'S insurance policies. I LOSE A BENEFIT, for I know there will not be $18K more in my salary! I am also burried in taxes and a HUGE CHUNK OF MY INCREASED TAXES will pay for more ILLEGAL ALIEN INSURANCE! Like I said, "I AM MIDDLE AMERICA"!!!!!!!!

It will be a BIG problem if it goes to LEGAL CITIZENS from some new amnesty bill!

Solution very simple and cheaper than amnesty or deportation. E-Verify mandatory law. If they cannot work illegally they will self deport with their children. It has been proven to work in state that have enforced immigration laws like Ariz, also

Our immigration enforcement law is broken and it needs to be reformed and moved out of the federal system and placed in the hands of states law enforcement.

how are these "illegal aliens" getting all kinds of free things such as healthcare blah blah blah when YOU NEED AN ID/SSN FOR THIS.
and HELLO, obviously they DO NOT have an ID so you guys can all shut up about this. You need a SOCIAL SECURITY number for pretty much everything to get anything to buy anything, you need one FOR EVERYTHING and if you use fake crap or use some one elses they will just get caught. Get real and think about all the facts, they don't get ****.

You are an unread liberal circus clown that will probably be put out to pasture under the new health care bill. Read on if you can understand big words.
The Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act requires all emergency departments to treat all persons coming in seeking medical care, regardless of residency status or ability to pay. Hospitals cannot legally ask residency status of patients, which thwarts attempts to determine accurately the scope of the situation.

Everytime we open the door a little more, the problems grow. It is the job of Mexico to deal with their people. It is the job of the people of Mexico to deal with the corruption of the Government of Mexico.

The issue becomes simple: will the illegal aliens pay for the crime of illegal entry, or will the American Taxpayer be forced to pay for the crime of illegal entry?

If those kids come to school with a certificate that indicated they had the shots, there would be no problem at all. Those shots, by the way, can be had at the Texas Public Health Office, and that vaccine can be administered by the School Nurse.

President Obama is suggesting the Children are quasi legal. The 14th Amendment tells us they are NOT legal. By his oath of office, President Obama should be very busy telling Napolitano to stuff it... deport the illegal aliens. The Democrats in Congress should be doing that also. Where does the not honoring the oath of office stop?

Deport the illegal aliens as the majority of the people of the United States wants. Give us a chance to vote on it. One thing most certainly: don't let Senator Schumer of New York decide what will be done.

All illegals need to leave our country the same way they came in! Yes they are totally breaking the emergency rooms! And did everyone know that if a person comes in for treatment and they can't speak English we have to provide the translator free of charge? The hospitals can't by law turn anyone away! I pay school taxes even though my daughter attends a private school. I did not send her to our public school because of the rift raft! Go shopping any day of the week and you will see Mexicans using their food stamps! I too am very tired of it! Our government needs to enforce the law and get them out of our country. My ancestor did not fight in the American Revolution to support Illegals. Fed up

Consider this. Even if Obama adds around 15 million illegals to our healthcare plan and some of you wingnuts think that's manageable..... the U.S. has a policy of allowing 1 million immigrants to our country every year. WE"RE BROKE PEOPLE".... we can't sustain that type of program. Especially when the immigrants aren't going to be paying. We need to cut medical costs by taking care of illegals, tort reform and fraud, especially in the medicare/medicaid programs. We need to start taking care of American's first. You know, we have the finest healthcare on the planet. We do more research and development than any other country. That does cost money and makes things expensive. But, there isn't one person in America right now, illegal or not, that can't get medical care if they walk into a public hospital and need help. Stop believing all the hype. You can't reduce medical costs by implementing an inefficient health insurance plan.

Pensecola8 You are a bona fide nut. You say the mostly incredibly wrong things. Cripes, where are you getting it. Hospitals in border states are being shut down by the huge monetary burden of caring for illegals who are not paying their bills. Get real and do some actual reading before you start telling people how the rest of the world does things. They only do it like that in your imagination. We should just tell all the people who are homeless to go over to your house to live. You can let them sleep in your house, your yard, your garage. Feed them and clothe them, take them for medical care and provide schooling for them. Should be no problem for you right!!! Grapes of Wrath and all that......

Obama is deceitful just as any other politian is. How can one say that the little innocent childeren of illegal immigrants can be given healthcare. Where would their parents be, deported? Of course not, they will be on the automatic golden brick "pathway" and become a legal US citizen! What a two faced SOB. My viewpoint is a little different, I am a semi-retired Canadian living in Panama. I have been on legal migration here for almost 5 years and soon to be complete. I can tell you that if your papers are not in order here immigration will boot you from the country ASAP. There is no free healthcare for foreingners, rich or poor, you are on your own, even after obtaining a residency. No welfare, no monthly checks, no food stamps, even for the citizens of Panama! And you have to show that you are solvent and can provide for yourself and are not going to take work away from a Panamanian, (imagine that novel concept). It sadens me to see the USA going down a path of pure socialism and frightens me to think where you will be 3 1/2 years from now when Obama is finished. The USA in my mind was the last large, free capitalistic society left where one could work hard and make their dreams come true and still have the majority of the wealth they worked so hard for. In the future that will no longer be the case because the US is rapidily joining the high levels of taxation of Canada, Europe and other socialistic states that casterate any real growth and innovation because of high taxes. Politians want voters and the welfare moms and their kids outnumber the hardworking folk. Very sad to see the good ole USA going down this path. I can say as a Canadian expat, socialism was one of the (many) reasons I left my homeland and to this day I am a ashamed of what my country has become. Sending a monthly welfare check so that lazy deadbeats can stay at home, watch cable TV all day, eat ice cream and potato chips and have babies (so the monthly checks get bigger) is just plain evil and morally wrong!

don't the courts make the hospitals take care of illegals. They can;t refuse to treat illegals insurance or no insurance so even with public or private we still pay so how can the president say say we won't have to pay under the new insurance reform isn't that technically a lie

Obama is not being truthful as usual!! Yes Illegal immigrants can receive FREE HEALTH CARE from your tax dollars. Here is now. Right now there is no verification that a person is a citizen of the United States. This verification process was voted down in congress!!! So the answer is YES, illegal immigrants will receive free health care!!!

I was talking to an older gentleman yesterday (8/29/09) at a Town Hall meeting with Congressman Pete Olson. He had an interesting question. He prefaced his question with the statement that the Doctors and Hospitals that are providing health care to illegal immigrants are currently being paid. They are not taking the losses that we conservatives assume are being passed on to the consumer (i.e. you and me). They are being reimbursed 100%? by the Federal Government (i.e. you and me)? through Medicare.

The Congressman said that this was not possible, unless it was an isolated case of Medicare fraud. In the Congressman?s defense, the fact is that the law says that you have to be a citizen (or a legal permanent resident for 5 years) to be eligible to legally receive Medicare. But the law doesn?t say you have to prove it. The result of not enforcing a law is pretty much the same as no law. It?s not rocket science.

So I did some surfing and found out that this old guy was right. And this is a well-kept secret, because you won?t find this as a talking point on any websites, or at least I didn?t. But here's the proof. It?s a link to the page on the AMA website telling the doctors and hospitals how to get paid for treating illegals. http://www.ama-assn.org/ama/pub/physician-resources/legal-topics/medical-staff-topics/funding-undocumented-aliens.shtml.

The AMA site says that doctors and hospitals no longer need to inquire into a patient?s citizenship status in order to get paid. The AMA says that all claims for reimbursement on illegals are processed by TrailBlazer Health Enterprises, LLC on this link https://www.trailblazerhealth.com/Section_1011/Default.aspx?UrlRID=708. So ?Trailblazer? has been set up as the conduit to hide these reimbursements with an end run around the Traditional Medicare system. Section 1011 of the ?Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement and Modernization Act of 2003? is titled ?Federal Reimbursement of Emergency Health Services Furnished to Undocumented Aliens.? Section 1011 was funded to provide reimbursements of $250 million a year for fiscal years 2005-2008 for payments to eligible providers. If you go to this link
https://www.cfda.gov/index?s=program&mode=form&tab=step1&id=eaa295c59359e90f3cd3e095f8e7b09a&cck=1&au=&ck=, you?ll see that in 2008, Section 1011 has disbursed $596,200,567 to 2,165 hospitals, 50,116 physicians, and 504 ambulance providers.

I know a lot of people who are undocumented and don?t have health insurance. I often ask them about their health care situation. I could write about dozens of stories here, but suffice it to say that they are all receiving outstanding health care, and are very happy with the current system. In fact, I have yet to meet even one undocumented immigrant who has had any health issues related to his lack of health insurance. I bet you have never met one either. And in Southeast Texas, the hospitals seem eager to welcome them back. I never understood that before. But now it all makes sense. The illegals get health care and Medicare pays the hospitals for it.

But this was only the preface to the old guy?s question. What he wanted to ask about was if the Congressman was aware of recent efforts by the Democrats to temporarily have Medicare stop paying the Hospitals for caring for the illegals. Yes that?s right, Democrats want to temporarily stop spending for something. Sounds like a good idea. But it?s a trick.

As more and more people are questioning if there really are many people having trouble receiving health care, there is apparently an ongoing effort led by Rahm Emanuel to create a crises quickly where none exists. (?You never want a serious crisis to go to waste"? Rahm Emanuel in Novemeber 2008 at a Wall Street Journal conference.) And if we don?t know the background, this trick will work. And the manufactured crises will turn public opinion their way.

We will not be successful in convincing Democrats to stop giving away the store. They already know that it?s crazy and illogical. They don?t care. The root cause of the problem is this. ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS VOTE. (They are not allowed to vote. But they do vote.) And they have a huge impact on our Presidential and Congressional Elections.

Federal law says that you have to be a citizen at least 18 years old in order to vote. But again, the law doesn?t specifiy any means of having to prove it. So it's left up to the states to enforce this law. Here again, the result of not enforcing a law is pretty much the same as no law. Democratic leadership wants to give out as many entitlements to as many people as possible. Why? They say it?s because of their compassion. Not so much. It?s to increase their voter base. They are vote farmers planting their crops. When attempts have been made to enforce proof of citizenship during elections, the Democrats have said that it would be too much of a hardship on people like Grandma and Grandpa to have to prove their citizenship. The Democrats have estimated the cost to individuals to have to produce proper ID at the voting booth at $20 per person. They say this is not fair. But as much as they like to spend, they didn?t consider having the Federal Government pick up the $20 tab. So enforcement is left up to state and local jurisdictions. Interestingly though, many of these same Democratic Congressmen an Senators didn't care about Grandma and Grandpa much when they started requiring Photo IDs at their Town Hall meetings last month!

If twelve year olds could vote, the Democrats would be pushing a bill to give away free Nintendos and Jonas Brothers Tickets. Again... not rocket science. It's a chicken-and-the-egg thing. Take away the illegals' ability to vote, and the Democrats will have no reason to give them entitlements. The same compassionate Democrats who didn't care about Grandma's $20 would drop the illegals like a rock. With no entitlements, they will self-deport.

So we should push for proof of citizenship enforcement at the voting booths in 2010. This can be done at the state and local level. The law is already in place. We just have to push for enforcement. That's the good news, because we can affect the outcome in that arena. Proof of citizenship enforcement at the Federal level will not succeed until after Conservatives outnumber Liberals in both Houses. In fact, we would probably need a veto-proof 2/3 majority to make this simple idea of "enforcing the law" a reality. So it all comes down to stopping the illegal vote in 2010. If we kill the chicken in 2010, then there won't be any eggs in 2012. No eggs in 2012 means no Obama in 2012, and we?ll get our country back. But time is of the essense, because there is a tipping point here. Once the voting receivers of ?free stuff? outnumber the voting taxpaying producers of ?free stuff?, then there is no way to get our country back. In fact it may already be too late.

This will not be easy. The Liberals know that maintaining the illegal?s vote is the key to their power. They deny that it exists. But they know that without it, they would never have won in 2008. They will fight this with everything that they have. If you think that this is so simple that the Liberals couldn?t possibly stop the states from enforcing the law that they refuse to enforce, think again. Last fall, then Senator Obama?s presidential campaign asked the Justice Department to decide whether a state which implemented changes to its voting laws had to be approved by the Federal DOJ. A ruling was issued that said that the Feds had the right to review and approve any changes made by a state that wanted to implement voter citizenship verification. Now that Obama won and the Liberals won both houses, they will try to use this to stop any voter citizenship verification from taking place.

In May of 2009, Georgia became the second state (behind Arizona) to pass a law requiring that all residents prove their citizenship before they can register to vote. I can?t believe I just said that. It?s unbelievable that these laws don?t already exist, but remember that the Federal law that says you have to be a citizen to vote says nothing about having to prove it. That?s left up to the states. If you think that the Feds can?t do anything quickly, think again. One month after Georgia signed this into law, the Federal Justice Department issued a ruling that barred the state of Georgia from continuing the citizenship verification. The DOJ said that Georgia?s system ?does not produce accurate and reliable information?. Loretta King, the acting assistant attorney general for the Justice Department?s Civil Rights Division, said in a letter to the state that the citizenship verification was a ?substantial burden? for ?minority voters?. That card will be played in every hand that?s dealt.

Some proof of citizenship requirements for voter registration bills have surfaced recently in several other states (Colorado, Illinois, Tennessee, Washington, Virginia, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Nevada, Oregon, Texas, Utah). So far, the Liberals have been able to obstruct these efforts. The Liberals have often argued that any cost or inconvenience to a voter was tantamount to a poll tax, and therefore illegal. So they do enforce some laws. Our only hope to reclaiming this country is for each state to quickly invoke it?s own voter citizenship verification law where all costs and all inconvenience is picked up by the state. The accuracy and reliability of the system has to be impecable and beyond reproach so that the Liberals will have no legal basis to shoot it down. If twelve year olds could vote, the Liberals would come up with a height discrimination argument to stop all bartenders from asking for proof of age. They defy belief. But they are as real as a heart attack.
