illegal aliens crossing into the US in Arizona
Illegal Aliens walk a mountain path from Mexico into AZ.

Huachuca, AZ August 21, 2009---While overall Border Patrol apprehensions and illegal traffic appear to be down across the Southwestern US, rumors of "amnestia" are once again driving illegal aliens to El Norte.

It happens every year and there is usually a delay from the time the media starts talking about “immigration reform” again to when the illegal traffic begins to increase. With President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton paying regular visits to the neighbor next door, it was only a matter of time before the rumor mill got all wound up and the word reached the fields of Oaxaca. Today, with DHS Secretary Napolitano all but promising immigration reform to an assembled collection of more than 100 pro amnesty groups, businesses and Law Enforcement Associations at the White House, we are certain to see an increase in traffic heading illegally into the US. Whether she cam fulfill that promise and when remains a very big question.

Unlike previous Amnesty surges though, these future democrats will be greeted by twice the number of Border Patrol Agents and a border fortified with stronger fences and more robust defenses. Still, BP cannot be everywhere and many are likely to make it through especially in the more remote areas.

Such is the case in the Huachuca Mountains of Southern Arizona where the terrain is treacherous and the traffic hasn’t slowed one bit. On a hidden camera along one such trail, 400 illegal aliens passed by in the 35 day period between June 20th 2009 and July 25th. To view this shocking video: Click Here

The wildlife camera, placed by a citizen border watcher, clearly shows dozens of men, women and yes even small children, navigating this trail with backpacks, water jugs and who knows what else. Were this an isolated case it could perhaps be explained. Sadly, this number has been fairly consistent for the last few months. The border watcher works alone and doesn’t belong to any Minuteman type group. He has been shooting these videos for the past two years, which have also captured on digital film, bears, mountain lions and other assorted wildlife along the same path. His videos have been shown on CNN.

What is driving the increase in traffic? Certainly not the economy in the US. Many illegal aliens are heading south not north but the word, both good and bad, travels slow in this part of the world. The increases in traffic may be an indicator of what is to come as the rhetoric and promises of amnesty spiral out of control. It has also driven Border Patrol to increase its vigilance of  remote areas placing more resources to stop the flow of people and drugs. Still, their resources are not limitless and if they place men, women and materials in the dark recesses of those mountains, another chink in the armor is likely to develop elsewhere.

While rumors of a secure border sweep America, another more insistent call has gone out to the third world: Get here while the getting is good!
