Law enforcement seeking missing man; I-75 crash feared

STORY TOOLS

Police agencies from Crossville, Tenn., to Lexington, Ky., are searching for a 26-year-old Kentucky man who went missing Saturday after a weekend kayaking trip with his father.

Andrew Delaney Tuttle was last seen April 5 in Crossville. He had been kayaking at Camp Nakanawa His father, who was traveling in a separate car, left before his son, said Cumberland County Investigator Gary Howard. Tuttle but was apparently headed home to Lexington, KY when he last spoke to his wife at about 5:25 p.m. . He told her he was on I-75 north of Knoxville, Howard said, and reported he was tired from kayaking and camping.

Tuttle, who is employed as a teller at a Lexington area bank, is reportedly quiet and not prone to be a risk taker, said Howard, who added there has been no activity on his cell phone or credit cards since he was reported missing by his wife. "We're afraid he might have fallen asleep and driven off the Interstate," Howard said.

The Tennessee State Highway Patrol and police agencies along Tuttle's route home are assisting in the search. THP has used a helicopter to conduct an aerial search.

About six feet tall, Tuttle weighs about 175 pounds, has brown hair and eyes.

He was dressed in blue jeans , tennis shoes and a gray sweatshirt.

He was driving a tan Honda Accord with Kentucky license plates, #244AFY.

Anyone with information on Tuttle's whereabouts should call investigator John Haynes with the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department at (931)-484-6176, ext. 2019.

More details as they develop online and in Wednesday's News Sentinel.

They may be able to pin point his location thru the cell phone provider.

Everyone available who is familiar with the road or own property near old streams or creeks overpasses need to be checked. We had a similar situation where a car of four just disappeared but were unfortunately found to late for they ended up off the road and upside down in a creek where you couldn't see from the road without getting to where you could actually see the whole area.

The cell phone provider can only do a very general area, and it usually only works if there was an active call at the time. Gemini is right. The best hope is for people who know that area to look. The problem is cars going off the road aren't alway easily visible. I've read of too many cases where searchers driving or walking a road didn't see the car because it had gone too far into undergrowth or trees.

My thoughts and prayers are with the man and his family, and please follow up on or report anything that doesn't look right.
